Bottoms up!

The success of others is the success of us. What does that even mean? One of our Pile Brothers was passed at Comic Strip Live after his audition. Roger and Thomas have theirs coming up soon. He was passed in a way that made us all a little proud inside. He got no bad criticism from the owner. He was the most confident on stage, and he knew his material.

What makes this event all the more special is he did it the Pile way. The way of changing the game. We want people to explore outside routes from the norm. Because, let us face it, the norm has hundreds of thousands of comedians fighting for their chance. What if there was another way? Well, there is, and our Pile Brother, Kenny Murdock (The guy with glasses) did it another way from the norm.

The idea is that we work to support one another. Either a part of the pile or not. This game is big enough for all of us to be working together. There are other routes to the top, and all the boys are doing it. Staying focused, working their craft, building relationships and even growing a Brand. All we can say is that the Bottom went up the other night, and there is still more happening! To the Top!

Purelime_SupportBra_Black

This past week we checked out a show at Gotham Comedy Club called “The Sisters of Comedy”. It was a showcase of talent where every comic was of African descent. We weren’t just hanging around hoping to get a spot as there would be nowhere we fit for the obvious reason; we’re not females. We were there to experience a different side of Comedy, with material we can not possibly write ourselves since we have no experience as Women. It was a time to just sit back and enjoy our colleagues work on their craft.

It was a terrific experience. Every lady was just as funny as the last and it really showed how we support the cause more than exploit it. We don’t have to be put on stage every time we pop into a performance because there’s much more going on off stage than there is on. Making our peers laugh is almost as valuable as making an audience laugh, to us anyway. The friendships we built that night are going to blossom accordingly with how we treat them, and much like flowers, that is a beautiful thing.

You don’t have to be a Comedian to follow the advice we give. Your job in itself can utilize a lot of the teachings throughout this blog. Be nice to everyone, talk WITH people and not TO them, and learn the importance of building the foundations for relationships. The more people you know, and the strength of the bonds of that network can only help you, not hinder you. There will be no snakes in the grass, because snakes don’t build relationships, they exploit shortcuts and easy moves. In the long run however, they will fall, and on the way down no one will be there to catch them.

Stay Piled, friends.

handshake

The Pile is back in the high life again.

After a brief hiatus to get ourselves situated and cozy in our new digs, the Pile hit Manhattan to once again work at cultivating our relationships with our colleagues and peers. Hopping on the subway, hopping off, and making our way around the square that is this Gotham of ours, we hit a few of our favorite spots. Naturally, there were laughs to be had with old friends and new friends alike.

It was nice to be welcomed back, even after such a long absence. Which is of course, the value of building these relationships. It shows us that the Comedy World is just as receptive to us as we are to it, and that’s a good feeling. Especially when it’s so important to the basic principles of the Pile. A nice validation comes from seeing our friends in Comedy welcome us back with open arms.

This of course can only lead to doors opening as these people we talk and keep in contact with will be the the ones holding them open. We will do the same for them when the time presents itself because if there’s one basic, underlying theme through all these blogs, we return the favor. Take that into consideration, ladies. If we’re so generous with the people that our supposed to be “our competition”, just think of how we could send waves through your tight little bodies.

Stay piled, friends.

We’re trying to figure out which happens more often; Pile moments or Stoney sighing during one of us practicing our sets. The Pile moments are edging him out, but only slightly.

We are now 5 months into our 1 year commitment to becoming a stronger team of like minded individuals. This had led us to success not only in our personal brands, but our personal lives as well. Your life is essentially a business, and no one wants their business to fail so if you keep networking, keep marketing yourself, and practicing the ideas behind the mentality you can find laid out in this Word Press, failure is almost next to impossible.

As we prepare for our College Tour and our upcoming gigs, we add to this the people we have met along the way who have shared the ideas and components that have lead to their own individual success stories. These people, as I’ve stated, are businesses and instead of being at each other’s throats fighting for the spotlight, we share our moments in it and bask in the glow together.

Keep it tuned, because the first 365 days are only the start. With our DVD forthcoming, the content of our brand always churning, and dare we say.. a reality show?!.. the Pile grows. It’s almost as if hashtags were invented for #PileStyle solely.

A nice post from one of our members: Thomas J. Bellezza!

• Day 150 of 365

When the day comes where you feel results through action are going smoothly, you must stop and reevaluate your accomplishments. The first 365 days should not be easy. Smooth makes people whom are starting out, slow down. This why there should always be a person leading the charge. A leader does not own the team, or the effort. Their job is to maintain action, and motivate results. One other job a leader must have to ensure a strong team effort: The power to teach. When that is taken away there is little left that can be completed.

Each member has a special purpose in Top of the Bottom Pile. Each of those talents help mobilize a greater cause. As a unit we will see greater things happen. A goal; be stronger than the smooth easy path, stronger than the calm. A good kick in…

Mufasa

They say March roars in like a lion, but in reality it was just Leigh West farting against the dryer.

March sees the continuation of the mission that The Top of the Bottom Pile set out to achieve; success through numbers and hard work. Believe us when we say the proof is in the pudding.

Clubs continue to send us dates and our College tour is shaping up nicely. Our interview series continues to roll on as we are set to interview Comics well versed in the lifestyle of a New York City comic.

When combined with the mindset The Pile has always had, we will share this info with fellow comics so we can all achieve our goals together.

The Pile continued it’s interview series this past weekend at the always accommodating and lovely 206 Lounge with hilarious Comedian Pudge Fernandez.
Pudge is seen all over the city, and you can catch him performing at or selling tickets for the NYC Comedy staple, The Greenwhich Village Comedy Club.

• Interview with Jeff Lawrence!!!

Recently I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Jeff Lawrence; owner of Laughing Buddha Comedy (LBC). I took the boys from the Top of the Bottom Pile tour and we headed out to New York City to sit in the beautiful Village Lantern so we could record an insightful 5 minutes of “How success came to Jeff and LBC”.

Talking about dealing with comedy classes, networking and the idea that you have to stand out were some of the topics we glanced over. I enjoyed his conversation, energy, and of course that wonderful Buddha smile!

Happy New Year to everyone from the Top of the Bottom Pile!

So as we plunge into 2014 like your toilet after Christmas Dinner with the in-laws, we also enter our third month with a team mentality that has seen more happen with organized effort and a business plan that sets aside the concept of egotistical actions of a person feeling they can do it alone. In a world with 7 billion people in it, no one is alone if they approach others and reach out.

This year is all about networking and marketing the world of Top of the Bottom Pile. While we have our goals and quest to make something from scratch, you too can make changes to see your life grow. Reach out to people. In fact, if you see us out there in the world reach out to us pile style and support the cause. The cause? Growth among the World with laughter and joy. We will be looking out for you as well!

Here’s to hoping your balls dropped!

“United we stand. Divided we fall.”

Truer words may never have been spoken. Who said them? I don’t know. Some guy trying to be philosophical to impress some bitch out of her knickers, most likely.

That doesn’t take away from the power these words emanate. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that 2 is greater than 1. In fact, I just asked my Nephew with Autism and he even agrees, so there you have it.

Those who attempt to go at it alone are doomed to always remain at the bottom. Those who band together may just rise to the top of the bottom pile. That’s what we’re all about. A  band of comedians with like minded attitudes toward achieving success, notoriety, and hopefully if we’re lucky enough, share as many laughs as we create.
