On Top of the City

New York City has become our home stomping ground. Some consider California, others Chicago and even a few more call Boston their home. To us, NYC is where we spent most of our days chillin and relaxing… okay maybe those are lyrics, but we are all New York Comedians. There is a responsibility to having that title. This is the Mecca of comedy. Or so history suggests. In the 80’s and early 90’s there were comedy clubs everywhere and now there are only the Symbols of humor staying alive. 

There is such a grand history which makes running the streets of NY priceless. It’s a responsibility which we take on proudly. But comedy is the least of the system when it comes to walking down to Comic Strip Live, or to Gotham Comedy, and even relaxing at The Stand. Clubs are there for congregation. These are our churches, temples, places of worship. We might now always pray when we are there, but we are listening, learning, and building beautiful relationships. 

It seems almost counterproductive to be doing what we do; being relationships, pushing our Brand, and practicing our art. But, truth is, it is getting us where we want to be. In the center of everything. It allows us to be around the people we respect the most, and the clubs which maintain the game. Be it up town, midtown, or downtown, our goal is to continue to grow among our fellow Peers and enjoy this adventure as we climb from the Top to the Bottom Pile!

Together we reach for the bottom

The process of each day begins with us. Each person involved. Either those doing nothing, or those doing everything. The process is an end result to success. Being the best of the worst for us never was about fame or fortune, but changing the systems. Changing the game for those starting out. Maybe even more so for those still in the game after ten years wishing they could get their opportunity. Whatever it is, we all have our part to play. In Top of the Bottom Pile or near us.

This community needs to stand together for something more than “who is the funniest”, but what can we do with togetherness. I know, that sounds silly now, but think about the comedians you consider friends. You love working with them, you love being around them. The truth is, you need one another. We all need one another. When everything is said and done, you have your part to play while they have their part to play. We should, however, always know we can make it better together.

Changing the game begins with doing something different than what others have been doing their whole life in entertainment. What if there was another way? What if we could break the system and find out there is more to life than just working to be the funniest person out there? I think it is important to remember successful people are always keeping it fresh, and always doing something more productive than the normal beginner. You can’t start on top till you begin at the bottom!

Comedy is Funny

The business of comedy starts with a joke. You can be a joke, tell a joke, hear a joke. What is it that makes all that funny? The humor of comedy is a mixture of all three. We can make anything happen as comedians. Top of the Bottom Pile is continuously fighting through change, understanding and the humor of the business. We are all about working together even when we’re not together. That’s one thing we have learned with Top of the Bottom Pile.

In the passing few months people have moved on, others have joined and even more so big moves have been made. The team is working hard at building our personal brands to help explode the power of the Top of the Bottom Pile brand. Some of us have radio shows on Tuesdays, others just got signed with a manager for acting, and even more so, others are getting ready for auditions for comedy clubs. The system is here to allow us all to succeed. The support system is what keeps us going.

Positive growth is an idea that no one person is bigger than the other. When your mind finds fear in being overshadow opportunity is lost. Success for one is success for all. One thing that has to maintain the fuel of Top is keeping our standards pure and purposeful. Respecting possibility in teamwork, individuality, and supporting the life of us entertainers is the goal. All the greats work together, why would doing it on your own as an unknown work differently? The best part of the bottom is the top!

A few weeks ago, we had mentioned that the Pile was growing. After a much anticipated and highly speculated event, we can officially decree that we are ready to announce our newest member, Chris Hamilton!

A quick rising star who has performed at Hoboken Comedy festival, several colleges in addition to performing at all major comedy clubs in New York City. As a native New Yorker, he talks about his upbringings and the differences from present day New York City compared to New York in the 90s. With a bizarre point of view and observational humor make him a force to be reckoned with in the comedy world.

For the Pile, this means a few things. Other than our apparent presence in the community, this signifies a change as well as growth in our brand. This offers another brother in arms to take up some of the work load and opens doors to new possibilities with a fresh perspective on things. Stay tuned, because 2015 is certainly looking to be “the year of the Pile.”
